The American society changed drastically during the 1950s. The Civil Rights movement was when many African Americans fought for their rights and freedoms as a U.S. citizen. The spark of the Cold War and tensions increasing between the United States and the Soviet Union  had a huge effect on the American society, its people and the goverrnement. The panic and terror of communism spreading to the United States cuase the creation of McCarythism. The "Baby Boom" of the 1950s caused the development of roadways and subrubs all across America. The pop culture of the 1950s was very different from what we see today. People like Elvis Presley and Stan Lee started their careers in the 1950s. A popular television in this decade was I Love Lucy staring Lucille Ball. All of these factors contributed to the formation of the American society we have today.
